Why I Started Offering Family Films (and Why You’ll Love Them Too)

If you’ve ever had a photo session with me before, you’ll know how much I love capturing connection. The way your toddler reaches for your hand, the shy grin your preschooler gives you when you squeeze them close, the way your baby snuggles into your chest like it’s the safest place on Earth. These are the moments that make my heart sing, and yours too, I imagine.

But for a long time, I felt like something was missing.

Don’t get me wrong, I adore photography. I believe so strongly in the power of a single image to hold a memory, a feeling, a story. But I found myself wanting more. More movement. More layers. More of the little things that happen between the clicks. That’s when I started experimenting with video, and very quickly, I fell in love.

And now? I offer Family Films alongside your photo session, short, gentle, emotive videos set to music, created with the same eye for detail and connection that you’ve come to know from my photography.

And I think you’re going to love them.

What Makes Family Films So Special?

There’s something incredibly powerful about seeing your family in motion.

The way your child’s curls bounce as they run across a sun drenched field. The way your partner gently brushes your hair back as you laugh. The way your baby stretches and yawns in your arms. These things are fleeting, and while a photo can freeze a single frame, a film captures the feel of it.

Family Films are about movement and rhythm and feeling. They don’t replace photos, they complement them. Where a photo tells one beautiful moment, a film tells a mini story.

You get to see it unfold.

No Sound, Just Feeling

My films are set to carefully chosen music (no recorded sound), which means there’s no pressure to “say the right thing” or have perfect audio. Instead, I focus purely on movement, emotion, and the way you connect as a family.

This choice actually frees us up to be more relaxed. We don’t have to worry about what’s being said or whether kids are giggling or crying—we just focus on the flow of your family’s unique love story, as it happens in real time.

Think of it as a moving portrait, one that you can return to whenever you want to feel this chapter again.

Why I Started (and Why I’ve Never Looked Back)

The first time I made a film, I was hooked. Not just because of how beautiful it looked (though it really was), but because of how it made me feel. I cried when I watched it back, and it wasn’t even my family in the film!

That was the moment I knew this wasn’t just a nice little add-on. It was something really special. Something families would want to watch again and again, something their children would treasure when they’re older.

Honestly? These films have made me a better photographer, too. They’ve taught me to slow down even more, to anticipate not just the smile, but the movement before and after it. I now look at light, gesture, and connection through a whole new lens (pun absolutely intended).

What’s It Like to Have a Family Film Made?

Easy. Relaxed. Real.

You don’t have to “perform” or be anything other than yourselves. We play, we cuddle, we explore, and I guide you with simple prompts when neede, just like in my photo sessions. There’s no script, no pressure. Just your family, as you are, moving through a golden-hour afternoon, a snuggly morning at home, or whatever setting feels most like you.

After the session, you’ll receive a beautifully edited film set to music, filled with the kinds of moments you’ll wish you could press rewind on one day. And you’ll get your photo gallery too, because photos and films together? That’s where the real magic is.

Ready to See the Difference?

If you’ve ever wished you could bottle up this stage of life, whether it’s the sleepy newborn days or the energetic chaos of raising little ones, this is for you. A Family Film is a way to press pause on a time you’ll never get back, and see it again whenever you need to feel close to it.

If you’d like to learn more about how my sessions work, you can head over to this page or get in touch anytime, I’d love to chat about what we could create together.

Let’s capture the way this season feels.

Because one day, you’ll want to go back, not to what it looked like, but what it felt like to live it.
