Why You’ll Never Regret Having a Newborn Film

(and how it fits perfectly into your newborn photo session)

Becoming a parent is full of moments that take your breath away, and disappear just as quickly. Those sleepy stretches, tiny sighs, and the way your baby fits perfectly into the curve of your arm, gone in what feels like a blink.

You might already be thinking about newborn photos (and yes, you absolutely should!), but what about film? A moving, living, breathing memory of those first days?

If you’ve never considered it before, or it feels a little extra, let’s talk about it. Because I get it, and I promise it’s not as overwhelming as it sounds.

“It sounds beautiful, but I’m already so overwhelmed…”

Every new mum I’ve ever worked with has felt the same. You’re tired, your body’s still recovering, your baby’s feeding around the clock, and the thought of being on camera might sound like the last thing you want.

But here’s the thing, my newborn films aren’t about perfection. You don’t need to get dressed up or perform for the camera. There’s no script, no pressure. I quietly capture what’s already happening: cuddles, tiny fingers wrapping around yours, the soft sway of your baby on your chest.

It’s real life, beautifully, gently filmed.

“Will it make the session longer or harder?”

Not at all. I capture both photo and film together, seamlessly, during your newborn session. It’s one experience.

While I’m photographing your baby, I’m also filming the in-between moments, the way you smooth their hair, your partner’s quiet smile, the stretch before a yawn. You won’t even notice when I switch between the two.

There’s no extra posing, no repeat shots, no need to “do” anything differently. Just a calm, relaxed morning at home, filled with connection and love, exactly how your session is meant to feel.

“Is it really worth it?”

Here’s what one mum recently told me:

“Watching the video brought happy tears to my eyes. Life was already busy with four kids, and I didn’t think I’d have the energy for photos but seeing our video made me wish I’d done it with my older children too.”

That’s the thing about film. Photos capture what love looks like. Film captures what it feels like.

It’s your baby’s sleepy movements, your partner’s laugh, your toddler’s hands patting the baby’s head. It’s a feeling you can revisit years from now when they’re suddenly too big for your arms.

“But I don’t want my house on display…”

Totally understandable, and you don’t need to worry. I use natural light and gentle angles, focusing on connection rather than clutter. You’d be amazed how beautiful a small corner of your home can look through my lens. And I’m happy to move a few things around to create the perfect light-filled space.

Your home doesn’t need to look “photo ready”, it just needs to hold your family.

Why You’ll Treasure It Forever

A newborn film isn’t just about remembering how your baby looked, it’s about remembering this season:

  • The tiny movements that fade so fast.

  • The love that fills the room even when you’re running on no sleep.

  • The connection that makes your family yours.

When you look back, this film will bring it all flooding back, not just the moments, but the feeling of being right there.
