Everything you need to feel ready, calm and confident for your session

Welcome

You’ve booked your newborn session, yay! I’m so thrilled to capture this special season for your family.

I know that in the early days, life can feel a bit chaotic. But please know this: you don’t need to stress. My sessions are baby-led, gentle, and completely relaxed.

You don’t need to have the perfect outfit, perfect baby or perfect home. You just need to show up, be present, and love on your little one. I’ll take care of the rest.

What to Expect on the Day

During our session, I’ll focus on the heart of your home (usually the master bedroom, nursery, or couch) where you naturally spend time with your baby. These spaces are filled with light and love, making them perfect for capturing the beauty of this season.

We’ll go with the flow, following your baby’s lead. If they need to feed, cuddle, or have a little cry, that’s totally normal. I allow plenty of time, so there’s no pressure at all.

As a mum of two busy boys, I’ve seen it all, nothing surprises me! You don’t need to prove you’ve got a “perfect” baby or perfectly behaved kids. Newborn sessions can be unpredictable, and that’s okay. It’s not a reflection of your parenting, it’s just real life, and that’s exactly what I’m here to capture.

If you have older children or pets, I absolutely encourage them to join in! These moments are about your whole family.

And one last thing: keep smiling! Whether you’re settling your baby or playing with your other kids, your joy makes all the difference. When you relax and have fun, it shines through in every photo and the film.

What to Wear

Think soft, simple, and comfortable.

  • For Mum: A flowy dress, robe or soft knit (I’ve even had mothers in beautiful silk PJ’s). Something that feels like you. Neutrals like cream, beige, white or blush photograph beautifully.

  • For Dad: A plain tee or shirt in a soft tone; white, light grey, oatmeal, soft blue or green.

  • For Bub: A snug onesie or simple wrap in a neutral colour. No logos or bright prints, they tend to distract from baby’s sweet features. Make sure that whatever baby is wearing, we can get their hands and feet out (I want to capture ALL the details).

  • For Siblings: Something they’re happy in, ideally in colours that complement the rest of the family.

Go for coordinated rather than matching outfits, it creates a more natural, effortless look and lets everyone’s personality shine through.

Most importantly, wear what makes you feel good. When you’re comfortable, your connection shines, and that’s what makes the magic happen.

Preparing Your Home

Please don’t feel like you need to clean the whole house! I’ll work around whatever space you’ve got, and can move things as needed.

We’ll use rooms with the best natural light, and I’ll create a calm, cosy feel wherever we shoot.

If you have sentimental items, like a handmade blanket, a special book, or your baby’s hospital bracelet, feel free to have those nearby. I love weaving personal touches into your story.
